DETECT

Bringing the capability to detect and identify circulating pathogens closer to the source of outbreaks and advancing state-of-the-art, CRISPR-based technologies to enhance surveillance efforts in Western Africa for early detection of viral pathogens.

Pandemic prevention and response efforts greatly rely on the access to diagnostic and surveillance testing everywhere, especially in underserved rural areas where viral outbreaks often start because of human proximity to nature. Our approach to pathogen DETECTION uniquely deploys CRISPR-based genomic detection tools in addition to traditional pathogen surveillance efforts like sequencing and PCR-based testing approaches. These tools support the critical public health need to distinguish between viruses that present with similar symptoms but require different public health responses.

Sentinel’s employs genomic surveillance tools like point-of-care and multi-virus multi-sample pathogen detection platforms to help monitor disease outbreaks. Additionally we employ sequencing to monitor pathogen mutations and identify variants in known viruses.

SHINE

SHINE is a CRISPR based lateral flow test ideal for deployment in resource-limited areas. SHINE’s low equipment requirements brings the technology out of a centralized lab and closer to the source of a disease outbreak.

The SHINE platform assays include:

  • SHINE Covid-19 Assay

  • SHINE Lassa Fever Assay Clade II

  • SHINE Lassa Fever Assay Clade IV

CARMEN

Our High-throughput pathogen detection technology provides the ability to differentiate multiple viruses for a sample simultaneously. It is high throughput in nature, providing the ability to process large numbers of samples per run.

CARMEN offers several panels

  • CARMEN Blood bourn pathogen (BPP) panel series including

    • BPP1: Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic fever Virus, Ebola virus, Human Immunodeficiency Virus 2, Lassa Fever, Marburg Virus, Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1, West-Nile Virus, Yellow Fever Virus.

    • BPP2: Chikungunya, Dengue Virus, Sin Nombre Hantavirus, Measles morbillivirus, Rabies lyssavirus, Rift Valley Fever Virus, Zika Virus, Nipah Virus, Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)

  • CARMEN STI panel

    • Monkeypox virus, Hepatitis B Virus, Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2, Chlamydia trachomatis, Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis

  • CARMEN Respiratory Viral Panel

Sequencing

Sequencing also holds the key to identifying unknown and novel pathogens that make people ill. Sentinel supports needed sequencing capacity in West Africa, empowering local scientists and public health officials with the information to understand developing outbreaks, and inform public health interventions.

ACEGID works closely with national public health laboratories across the country to train lab personnel and support sample sequencing for Lassa Fever, Mpox, and other pathogens of interest.

Machine Learning supported assay design

As new pathogens emerge and existing pathogen variants are detected, we need fast and flexible tools to create diagnostic assays. ADAPT is our machine learning based solution for assay design that is fast, adaptable, and responsive to a changing pathogen landscape.
